Determination of Extracellular Fluid and Total Body Water in Children with Nephrotic Syndrome

Abstract
Extracellular fluid and total body water in normal children and edematous state of nephrotic syndrome were measured and discussed. 12 children were selected and divided into two groups, Group I (8 normal children) and Group II(4 children with nephrotic syndrome). Radiosulfate-35 25.?ci and THO 35 ?ci were injected simultaneously and blood were sampled every 30 minutes through 3 hours and radioactivities were counted by dual channel. beta-liquid scintillation spectrometer.
Results were as follows:
1. ECF: Mean¡¾S.D of Group I was 18.3¡¾1.8% Kg of body weight and 5.33¡¾0.911/m2 of¢¥ body surface, while that of group II was 21.3¡¾1.3% Kg of body weight and 6.70¡¾0.861/¢¥ m2 of body surface and there was statistically significant difference between the two group (p?0.05)
2. TBW: Mean¡¾S.D. of Group I was 58.0¡¾3.3% Kg of body weight and 16.9¡¾2.31/m2: of body surface, while that of Group II was 61.2¡¾2.3% Kg of body weight and 18.7¡¾1.611 m2 of oody surface, and there was no statistically significant difference.
